Did you ever drive away from your house and later wonder if you closed the garage door? Well, it happened to me last weekend when I was leaving for a long holiday weekend. I had driven nearly 10 miles and suddenly realized that I couldn’t remember if I saw the garage door finish closing, so I turned around and went back home to check. When I got home, I discovered that the door was indeed shut – phew! But now I was 30 minutes behind schedule – not so happy about that!
The annoyance of this episode prompted me to search for a home automation system that could tell me if the garage door was open or shut and give me the ability to shut it without having to drive all the way back home.
Let’s face it, there are all kinds of obvious reasons why you don’t want to leave your garage door open, including security, risk of freezing pipes, and the effect that outdoor temperatures can have on your heating and cooling system. Wild animals rummaging through your garage is another big concern!
So here’s the good news…a little bit of Internet research for my “dream†remote control led me to a really cool home automation system that actually gives you full control over your garage door from your cell phone! You don’t even need a smart phone or an iPhone or Bluetooth. This very cool system by housEvolve does all of this using a regular cell phone:
- Control your garage door from your phone
- Allow you to call in for garage door status (open or closed)
- Calls you if the garage door is open for too long
- Calls you if the last door activation command didn’t work
- Let’s you change the access keypad password remotely
This is one of those do-it-yourself home automation systems that is easy to install and affordably priced. It’s compatible with all automatic garage door systems and lets you add other neat features to its main controller, such as the ability to remotely control the temperature in your home or phone receive alerts of flooding problems or power outages.
Because your garage door is often your home’s only motorized entryway and you control it from a distance with a remote opener, it’s prone to being inadvertently left open. But with housEvolve’s home automation system, you’ll have the ability to check the status of your garage door, and open or close it easily from anywhere, using your cell phone. Now, how cool is that?

I would like to know more about this home automation system that is controlled from your cell phone.
I would like to develop an aoutmated home control for the garage door that would monitor the status and alert me if the door is opened when i’m not home or if i forgot to close it when I went to bed and close it.
