1)\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Supervision<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n

Animal experts agree that supervision and training are the best ways to keep your dog safe around water.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Most dogs really do know how to do the \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cdoggie paddle\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d and have the natural ability to float and swim.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 However, breeds with low body fat, smaller dogs with short legs and aging pets can have trouble.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Always familiarize your dog with the layout of the pool or lake and make sure she knows where she can climb out safely.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Overexertion caused by panic is number one cause of pet drownings.<\/p>\n

A water immersion alarm<\/a><\/strong> has a wireless transmitter<\/a><\/strong>\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0that attaches to your pet’s collar. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0If your dog slips or jumps into the pool or lake, an immediate alarm sounds. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0The same water immersion base station can be used to protect young children and non-swimmers. \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0These devices work best in any kind of fresh or chlorinated water.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 They can also be used with salt water, but only in conjunction with a life jacket.<\/p>\n

5) \u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0Dog Life Jackets<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n

More and more dog owners are outfitting their pets with life jackets<\/a><\/strong>, especially if the dog is a poor swimmer or riding on a boat.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 A life jacket will help your dog stay above the water until she can be rescued.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Most jackets have a handle on the back to make it easy to lift the dog out of the water.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Note that since the sizes and styles of animal life jackets vary greatly, it is recommended that you take your pet with you when shopping so you can be sure to get a good fit.<\/p>\n
